The genuine Mercedes iPhone telephone cradle is for connecting an iPhone 3G(S) to a car with phone wiring. If you also have an iPod kit or MMI in the car, then that will also connect to this with an optional extra cable.

This will not work for the non 3G iPhone, but does work with the 3GS (and V3.x software on the 3G)

It charges the iPhone 3G(S), thus meaning the iPhone's 3G battery won't go flat on you and is slightly cheaper than a Mercedes HFP cradle.

Note, it will pair with the iPhone 4 but the iPhone 4 will not fit in the device.

With the iPhone 3G cradle, as it uses bluetooth, you can leave the iPhone in your pocket and just plug it into the cradle if you want to charge it or gain the benefit of your vehicle's external aerial.

It is wider than most phone cradles because of the shape of the iPhone 3G, so will not work with the A & B class cars with the narrow phone drawer. It will not work with older cars (build mainly before mid 2004) even with the exchangable cradle system as the other party will hear their voice echoed back, so please make sure that your car is in the list below.

Please also note that if your car does not have an iPod kit (perhaps because it can't support on) you may consider the iPhone 3G cradle without the iPod interconnecting cable as it will be neater.

Please note that although the cradle uses bluetooth, it will only pair with the Apple iPhone 3G, 3GS.

Please also note that we have had 2 reports (out of hundreds of users) of people having problems after upgrading their iPhones to iPhone IOS4.3 where the address book doesn't function properly. This is an issue caused by changes in IOS4.3 bluetooth, but can possibly be worsened by old versions of firmware in older cradles or in the vehicle's phone system, and by non english characters in address book entries. Firmware in the car can be updated by your Mercedes dealer, firmware in older cradles can be updated by Mercedes or by us, and you should check the address book entries (name, number, email address) for non english characters. We have alerted Apple to this and urge any affected users to do the same.
